why do radio personalities always look different than they sound?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Isn’t it weird that people’s voices never match up with their looks?

For example, radio talk show personality, Jay Severin. I’ve always loved his voice and listening to his show. But I don’t know, I never imagined he looked like this. I’m not really sure what I pictured, but maybe someone with a less pointy face and a little more hair.

Now, to me, Rick Shaffer on The Money Show sounds kind of nerdy. But I just looked him up on the Web and he’s actually quite attractive.

And how about Laura Ingraham, who I always pictured as an older, bookish, conservative-looking, matronly, even manly type woman, and look at her: she’s young and beautiful.

It’s just funny how our mind plays tricks on us and what we imagine is usually just that!

I served a brewski to (guess which New England Patriot?)

Monday, March 10th, 2008

A few years ago I decided to try a little bartending on the side for fun and profit. I didn’t experience much of either . . .except for a private party and fundraising event where the New England Patriots were the guests of honor.

I didn’t really follow football at the time so I had no idea who I was pouring beers for, except I did recognize Tedy Bruschi when he came up to my table with his big friendly smile.

I’ll have to go online to see their pictures and then I can tell you who else was hanging out at my beer station. They were all really nice and friendly. Just like most brushes with fame, you realize they’re just normal people like everyone else.

Just another day at the gym with Dennis Eckersley…

Last night’s brush with groceries and sports greatness

Monday, March 10th, 2008

In my last blog entry I mentioned that my last big brush with fame was in 2001. But come to think of it, I’ve had many more that I’d forgotten about.

Coincidentally,  just last night I bumped into Jim Corsi (former Red Sox Relief Pitcher) at the grocery store. Actually, I know him pretty well because my ex-husband wired his house and for awhile we used to all go out for drinks. You’ve probably seen him on TV; he’s a sports commentator on NESN nowadays.

I said, “I always see you at the grocery store!” and he said, “That’s because I always need to eat!”

That was about it for our deep conversation at the deli counter.

“Moment of Truth” not worth a minute of your time

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Does anyone agree that the new reality series, “Moment of Truth” is a sick and disturbing form of entertainment and that, at least on this show, telling the truth really is a terrible thing?

People go on national TV to take a lie detector test and answer questions designed to humiliate and hurt themselves and their loved ones, all for the chance to win huge sums of money.

I started watching it the other night and, as awful as I knew it was, just had to stay tuned in to find out the contestant’s answer to the question, “Do you have any secrets that could ruin your marriage?” (among other hurtful questions). I felt so sorry for her poor husband, who looked like a really nice guy, but then again, they both agreed to put themselves into this situation.

Anyway, I finally made the decision to stop poisoning my mind by watching stuff like this on TV that has no redeeming social value whatsoever. So I shut it off.  Every minute you spend watching “Moment of Truth” is time you’ll never get back, precious moments that are better spent on something a little more positive!

Shanna Moakler & Dennis Quaid, two of my would-be brushes w/fame

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

I think I’ve had more brushes with fame than any other “everyday” person I know–so many that at one point I was going to send them in to David Letterman and try to get on his show. But I don’t think he does that segment any more.

Actually, I think the last really major brush (or would-be brush) was seven years ago, when I was in a relationship with the brother of actress/model/tv reality star/Dancing-with-the-Stars star, Shanna Moakler.  He and I went to high school together and reunited via Classmates.com.

Anyway, Shanna was about to come home with her then boyfriend, Dennis Quaid, and we were all going to hang out. But two days before the visit, her brother broke up with me. Bwaah, bwaah, bwaah, bwaah…

If you knew me you would laugh, because that’s the sort of thing that happens to me all the time!
