“HBO, Bring True Blood Back To Me”

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Dear HBO,

You know I love you but what’s going on? What have you done with “True Blood”?

I have always admired your daring sense of taste and style in original programming.

I discovered my inner tramp with “Sex in the City”, worked out my urge to murder with “The Sopranos”, faced my fear of death with “Six Feet Under” and gained an understanding for why a man needs three wives with “Big Love”. So please or please tell me why you are denying me my God given right to explore my need to be a creature of the night with “True Blood”?

I can no longer handle the suspense and must know now, when does the next season of “True Blood” start? Give me a hint! Go on and tease me - just tell me, you are bring my “True Blood” back to me.

“Kings, I Rather Be Watching Paint Dry”

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Okay - I must have missed something or maybe it’s just my expectations were too high due to all the hype around the show - but boy, what a let down. I rather of scrub to a shine a cement floor than have spent the two hours (it was an eternity or at least it seemed like one) watching this ROTTEN TOMATO.

kingsreviewimg6The only redeeming quality of “Kings” is Christopher Egan as the heroic David - now there’s a looker, you know where he can eat crackers anytime - wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

So in a nutshell here’s my 2 cent summary of what NBC was hailing to be the best thing since sliced bread.

Egotistical man, King Silas is running Gilboa and is at war with Gath
Gath takes Gilboa soldiers as hostages
Egotistical man says about the hostages “let them eat cake”
Egotistical man finds out his son is one of the hostages - now who is “eating cake”
Young hot abitious stud plays hero, David and saves egotistical man’s son unknowingly…or does he?
Egotistical man is forever in the stud’s debt and offers him his Kingdom
Stud seems shy, quite, reserve (yeah right, we all know that’s going to change if “Kings” makes it pass the 3rd episode)
Stud says “Aw shucks, I don’t want anything”
Sexy young thing in red evening gown enters - but you can guess who she was
You got it egotistical man’s daughter - I guess stud wants King Silas’s Kingdom after all

As you can see, the plot of “Kings” is not really exciting unless you like brain dulling daytime soaps.

NBC get with it and give us some intelligent programming or at least something with more complex, characters with depth.

My recommendation: Don”t bother with “Kings” you have better things to do, like watching paint dry.

Oh, did I mention, “Kings” is based on the Biblical story of King David.

Love, American Style

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

250px-love_american_styleWhile doing a little late night channel surfing I happened upon reruns of a show from the 70’s, “Love, American Style”. Now I am not sure if you have ever heard of it or watched it - but I have to tell you, I laughed and laughed until my sides hurt, and still couldn’t stop laughing. Even now, while writing about it, I am chuckling to myself.

“Love, American Style” premiered September 29, 1969 and was
a compilation of vignettes filled with the perils of relationships, love and yes, that very dirty, dirty word…..you know the one “SEX”

I think with a little promotion “Love, American Style” could be an instant pop-cultural hit. So how about it T.V Land….how about a little “Love, American Style” rehash?

I Have a New Idol and Her Name is Tara Gregson

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Tara as Buck Sunday nights will never be the same. - Airing on Showcase at 10 PM, “United States of Tara” is a must-see for anyone who is juggling the many faces of being a woman (isn’t it all of us girls?)

Okay, so Tara is a suburban wife and mother of two, who just happens to have  Dissociative Identity Disorder. When life’s little stresses get to be too much for Tara, one of  her alternative personalities comes to the rescue.

In the opening pilot we meet “T”, a spunky 15 year old who takes over for Tara when Tara finds a prescription for the morning-after-pill in her daughter Kate’s things. Later “T” tries to seduce Max, Tara’s husband whose conscience will not allow him to accept the offer - Oh, and he has promised not to take advantage of Tara’s alter egos.

I like “T” and cannot wait to see more antics she will  undoubtfully get up to.

We also get to meet “Buck”, a gun-loving, ultra redneck, male, who surfaces after Tara witnesses Kate arguing with her goth boyfriend - I wonder what Tara’s husband Max, thinks about Buck

Who knew suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder could be so much fun - visit back next week to read the “dish” on episode 2

A Teary Eye on Idol

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Maybe I need more of a life, but I actually start to feel a little sad every year when the American Idol season draws to a close. It’s like a good book that you never want to end, and on the last page, no matter what, you’re always a little disappointed.

It’s sort of like watching the Red Sox or the New England Patriots–after awhile you almost feel like you know the major players and are part of their lives somehow because you’re sharing and witnessing what they’re going through.

I actually got teary-eyed last week when they voted off Brooke. She wasn’t the best singer or the most talented, but she seems like such a good, nice person! And now there are just three singers left and a loooong stretch until the new season starts.

Okay, I really need a hobby or at least a few more friends.

I’m a Family Guy…Gal

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Family Guy has to be one of the funniest, wittiest shows on TV.  I’d never really watched a full episode until recently, and now I’m hooked.

You have to pay close attention, though, or you’ll miss half the humor–there are so many little things thrown in that are pretty clever.

Check it out if you’re looking for a laugh, even if it is at the expense of Rhode Islanders!

Chris Cornell still deserves credit for Cook’s American Idol performance

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Okay, David Cook has a great voice, but I noticed the judges didn’t realize last week that his performance was a cover of a cover (Chris Cornell’s version of Michael Jackson’s version of Billy Jean). They called it brilliant or something like that.

It completely slipped by them that it wasn’t his own (even though Ryan Seacrest introduced his performance by saying it was a Chris Cornell cover).

I’m glad the cat’s out of the bag, especially with articles like this giving Chris Cornell the credit he’s due. But without reading these articles, most of America will probably continue to think it’s Cook’s genius, and I hope he doesn’t win based on that.

Anyway, I’m rooting for David Archuleta!

“Moment of Truth” not worth a minute of your time

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Does anyone agree that the new reality series, “Moment of Truth” is a sick and disturbing form of entertainment and that, at least on this show, telling the truth really is a terrible thing?

People go on national TV to take a lie detector test and answer questions designed to humiliate and hurt themselves and their loved ones, all for the chance to win huge sums of money.

I started watching it the other night and, as awful as I knew it was, just had to stay tuned in to find out the contestant’s answer to the question, “Do you have any secrets that could ruin your marriage?” (among other hurtful questions). I felt so sorry for her poor husband, who looked like a really nice guy, but then again, they both agreed to put themselves into this situation.

Anyway, I finally made the decision to stop poisoning my mind by watching stuff like this on TV that has no redeeming social value whatsoever. So I shut it off.  Every minute you spend watching “Moment of Truth” is time you’ll never get back, precious moments that are better spent on something a little more positive!
